Ford band vans - The transportation of music

There ain’t no party like a 1929 Ford Model AA party.

Delve in to the history of almost any band and somewhere in their story there will be a tour van.  As this image proves, Ford’s Model AA was the first in a very long line of Ford band vans.

In America, Ford’s Econoline van has transported many a famous musician from state to state, including Neil Young, Green Day and The Police on their first U.S. tour. Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl is so attached to his days on the road he still drives around in a classic Ford Falcon Kombi Van.

In Europe, it was the Ford Transit that transported many a famous band as they were starting out, including The Small Faces, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

For many musicians, the Ford Econoline and Transit were symbols of life on the road. The vans are likely to be responsible for getting more artists to shows than any other vehicles in the history of music.
